On Tuesday,the,Senate DFL Caucus held a meeting <br /> and elected a new leader. Senator John Hottinger was replaced after only one year as majority <br /> leader. He was replaced by Senator Dean Johnson. <br /> Tuesday evening I went to a meeting in Cass Lake on the cleanup efforts of the former St. Regis <br /> Paper Co. Superfund hazardous waste site.The House Environment and Natural Resource <br /> Committee Policy and Finance Chairs conducted the meeting. It was very informative. If you would <br /> like to learn more please contact me. , <br /> On Wednesday Governor Pawlenty announced his bonding priorities. His proposal is for a $760 million <br /> bonding bill,divided as follows: <br /> . Education $195.6 million <br /> . Economic Development,Housing, $194 million <br /> `' &Transportation <br /> . Environment& Natural Resources $172.4 million <br /> . Corrections $108.4 million <br /> . Effective Government& Public Svcs $89.3 million. <br /> Governor Pawlenty has said that the$760 million is the highest amount he would approve. <br /> Approximately 60°x'0 of the bonding goes to projects in outstate Minnesota. <br /> On Thursday I attended the Bemidji Chamber of Commerce debate. More than 30 people attended <br /> this televised forum at the Bemidji City Hall. We had two hours of excellent audience questions. <br /> On Friday, I attended the Bemidji Area Forestry Affairs Council. I continue to be impressed by this <br /> dynamic group! We discussed some of their priorities, including: <br /> • Designated funds for re-forestation; <br /> • Economic Driver of Transportation issues;and <br /> • Staffing for DNR. <br /> Future meeting topics are Specialty Forest Products in March and Cass Forest Products in April.
