\.. PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD
MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 26,2005 MEETING
The quarterly meeting of the PLAFD was called to order by Chairman Peterson.
Members in attendance were Benson, Greer, Thurlow,Murphy, Rach, Malecha, Nelson,
Peterson, and Messerschmidt. The minutes of the last meeting were approved by a
motion by Rach, second by Thurlow, motion passed.
The third quarter fire call report totaled 16 calls. By types, there were 6 motor vehicle
a ccident/rescue, 2 natural gas leaks, 2 assist police department, and 1 each of a power line
fire, grass fire, hay baler fire, a fire alarm cancelled in route, a gasoline spill in a garage,
and a medical assist. By location, there were 7 calls to Breezy Point, 4 to Pequot Lakes, 3
to Jenkins City, and 2 to Loon Lake Township. Last year, we had 16 fire calls during the
third quarter. Our total calls for the first three quarters this year are 56, last year we had
49 at this time.
There were 9 fire bills sent during the quarter for a total of$3250.00.
The training report totaled 16 hours. By types, there were 4 hours of pump truck
operation, 4 hours of multi-level structure fire fighting, 3 hours of water supply pumping
.. and drafting, 3 hours of water tank sealing, 1 hour of hose relay, and 1 hour of tanker
operation.
The third quarter financial report was discussed. Rach motioned to approve the report,
second by Greer, motion passed.
The Breezy Point fire station is being used by the department. We have our 1975 pump
truck and a grass truck there. We may move the 1995 pump truck there. It would be
equipped with a Hurst tool. We hope to utilize the facility more in the future. The water
tank in the new building has been water logged. The problem seems to be resolved now.
There seems to be a lot of concern about safety issues on County Road 11 by Eagle View
Elementary School and the day care facility across the road. A turn lane would help.
Traffic congestion and problems exiting the school and day care could result in possible
accidents. The county should be aware of the issues.
The department has no information about the FEMA grant application. We have applied
for other grants with no success yet.
A donation for $10,000 was received from Narveson Management to help equip the
Breezy fire station. A$500.00 donation was received from TDS Telecom, which was
used to help purchase the new AED.
