The department participated in the Palisade fire fighter competition in August. We also
sponsored a fire prevention program for the elementary school and day care facilities. A
hurricane benefit supper was held at Tasty Pizza. A donation of$1500.00 was sent to
help volunteer fire departments in the areas of destruction. The department's four pump
trucks were certified at a cost of$5236.37 for testing and repairs. A new drug and alcohol
policy was received from the City.
Kelly Larson has returned to membership on the department after a year absence. Tina
Nolden is back after a military commitment in Iraq. Pat Selter, Mike Schwankl, Dusty
Zeimet, and Nick Putnam completed their year of probation and are full-fledged
members. John Lauer was terminated for lack of attendance at meetings and fire calls. All
members received training and certification to operate the new AED.
A slightly used Hurst tool was purchased by the department for$6500.00. The tool
includes a new pump, a combination cutter-spreader, hoses, and a two way valve which
allows us to use two tools at one time. The new AED was purchased for$1500.00. A new
gear storage rack for the Breezy station was purchased for$1200.00.
The department acquired a used military jet fuel truck from the DNR. The cost for the
truck was $1500.00 for freight. The truck's 5000 tank will be cut down to about 3000 to
3500 gallons. The truck's frame will also be shortened. The cost for the project will be
about $8000.00. This should give us very reliable tanker at a reasonable cost.
Our budget will increase to allow for more required certifications and testing required by
the government. Our pump trucks, air packs, and our fire hose must be tested and
certified annually. There are possibilities that fire fighters may be required to have annual
physical tests. Thurlow suggested that Lakes Area Medication Association could possibly
help with costs and services concerning medical issues.
The department recently interviewed five fire fighter candidates. We have two openings
at this time. The department will ask the City for permission to hire three new fire
fighters. Mike Peterson has been called to serve with the National Guard in Irag. He will
be leaving about the first of December for a one to two year term.
Our next meeting will be January 25, 2006 at 7 pm.
Benson motioned to adjourn, second by Rach, meeting adjourned.
