Downtown Update <br /> Brian Schaffer updated the Council on the downtown committee meetings <br /> that have been planned. <br /> 8. Police Chief's Report <br /> Chief Braam updated the Council on police issues for the month. <br /> 8.1. Request to Hire New Police Officer <br /> Chief Braam recommended hiring Josh Gartner as a Pequot Lakes police <br /> officer. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER PFEIFFER MOVED TO HIRE JOSH GARTNER AS <br /> PEQUOT LAKES POLICE OFFICER AT $15.47 PER HOUR <br /> CONTINGENT ON A SUCCESSFUL BACKGROUND CHECK, AND <br /> DRUG TEST AND WITH A $.50 PER HOUR RAISE IN SIX MONTHS <br /> FOLLOWING A SUCCESSFUL SIX MONTH PROBATIONARY PERIOD. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION <br /> CARRIED 7-0. <br /> 9. Water/Wastewater Report <br /> Brett Twardy presented the monthly water/wastewater report. <br /> Brett noted that Tina would be back to work on the 12th. He requested <br /> Council authorization to keep Tim working until October 11th so that the <br /> jetting can be completed. Brett stated that he would go over budget by <br /> keeping Tim on for an extra month. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER GREER MOVED TO KEEP TIM LEYK ON AS AN <br /> EMPLOYEE UNTIL OCTOBER 12, 2005 AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE <br /> THAT TINA WOULD BE RETURNING TO WORK ON SEPTEMBER 12, <br /> 2005. COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD SECONDED THE MOTION. <br /> MOTION CARRIED 7-0. <br /> Bruce Peterson was in the audience and had a complaint about the City <br /> not paying a bill to thaw out the sewer main. After discussion, the Council <br /> requested Mr. Peterson to resubmit the bill and the City would then verify <br /> what was done and decide if the City was at fault. If so, the City will pay <br /> the bill. <br />
