PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE MAY 4, 2005 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 22 members
were present.
The minutes of the last meeting were read. Peterson H attended May Day and
accountability classes at the Duluth fire school. The minutes will be corrected.
Oaks motioned to accept the minutes, Peterson II second the motion, motion passed.
Truck check reports followed. The serpentine belt and two quarts of power steering fluid
was purchased for the Ford diesel pick-up. The Peterbuilt was missing 2 storz wrenches,
a 4 '/2"female by 4" storz adapter, a throw rope, and 2 blue tarps. The camera batteries
were put in the charger. The 1995 (#2)had no report. The 1975 Breezy pump truck has a
brake light not working, a missing 4 '/2" hard suction boot, and a missing hand lantern.
The hard suction boot should be on the 1978. The van(#4) chainsaw needs a new fuel
tank, as it is leaking on a seam. The#5 grass truck is missing the radiator cap, a metal
pump can, a funnel, and a gas can. We will purchase 3 new funnels. Tanker#6 has an
extra pike pole and a shovel. The pike pole belongs to the other tanker. The 1978 pump
truck(#7)brake fluid reservoir is by the steering column, but it cannot be checked. It also
needs some fuses, which were blown. Extra fuses should be in the tool room. The new
Ford diesel does not have a haz-mat book. It is also missing a hand lantern, safety
glasses, and a MCleod tool. Tanker#3's blinking light on the dash may be from the
switch on the dump tank bracket. The tank to tank jet was on the floor. There is also a
mask and a case on the truck, but it is not on the check list. The pike pole was found. The
air mask needs to go on the 1975 pump truck. We will probably sell all our old masks.
The financial report was that more areas have paid there fire contracts, and the balance is
approximately $57,000. Our checking account balance is about $4500.00. The
scholarship fund account was closed and will be joined with our checking account to
comply with new regulations.
The safety corner reminded us all that we should not ride in the van with the back door
open. Also wear all your gear at fir call scenes. Everyone should drive to the fire hall, to
fire scenes, and back home very carefully. Do not speed and comply with traffic
regulations. Our accountability needs improvement. The recent care fire in Loon Lake
Township was a good example of what not to do. We need to wear air masks and full
gear on these types of calls. Also the driver of the Peterbuilt should be the pump operator
at a scene. We should also critique fire calls and talk about incidents, so we can learn
from our mistakes. We need to be very careful for vehicles on any calls we have on
highway 371.
We received a$1000 grant from Crow Wing Power to be used for an AED. We need a
doctor to sign the request that we actually need the AED. We still need about $500.00
more to be able to get the AED.
