2. Adoption of the Land Use and Subdivision Ordinance, City of Pequot Lakes. The
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission, along with members of the public and City
Council, have spent the last six months working on an updated land use and
subdivision ordinance. The new ordinance will integrate many aspects of the
Comprehensive Plan within a set of regulations that are greatly simplified over the
current document, which was adopted in the transition from township/city to one
municipality. The new regulations reduce the number of land use districts and
streamlines the process for obtaining city approvals.
The Planning Commission recommends that the City Council repeal the existing
and adopt the new Land Use and Subdivision Ordinance.
Additionally, the Planning Commission recommends that the City Council place a
restriction on subdivisions that requires that the property have a zoning
classification consistent with the new ordinance at the time of or applied
concurrently with the subdivision application. If the property is not already zoned
consistent with the new ordinance, there should be no fee for the rezoning
application.
We will be at the June meeting to discuss the recommended process and procedure for
updating the zoning map. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to
contact me. You can reach me at 218-828-3064 or by email at
marohn@communityjzrowth.net.
Sincerely,
COMMUNITY GROWTH INSTITUTE
Charles Marohn, PE
Pequot Lakes City Planner
Cc: Planning Commission
Dawn Bittner, Zoning Administrator
217 South 7th Street, Suite 114
Brainerd, MN 56401
(218) 828-3064
www.communitygrowth.com
