City Council Minutes
April 5, 2005
Page 6
--------------------------
3. Brett explained the situation regarding a sewer line located on a city-
owned lot by the old city hall. He indicated that abandoning the line would
affect the property to the south of the lot.
4. Brett requested whether the Council was interested in jointly purchasing a
vacuum machine between Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point and Crosslake.
The Council was not sure whether the machine would be used enough by
the City to pay for it. It was suggested that the City rent a machine. It was
also suggested that Brett see if Nisswa would be interested in the joint
purchase. It was the consensus of the Council to take no action at this
time.
Water and Sewer Rates
Council Member Ryan indicated that he has reviewed the City's water and sewer
rates and compared them to other communities. He indicated that there is no
consistency as to how cities charge for these services. Council Member Ryan
indicated that the current rates are not generating enough revenue to pay for the
service. He suggested increasing the rates as proposed by Brett Twardy in
December, 2004. He further indicated that in order to catch up, the City may
need to increase rates continually for the next few years.
COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN MOVED TO INCREASE THE WATER AND
SEWER RATES AS FOLLOWS:
WATER: $14.50 FOR THE FIRST 2,000 GALLONS AND $4.50 PER
THOUSAND GALLONS OVER 2,000
SEWER: $13.50 FOR THE FIRST 2,000 GALLONS AND $3.50 PER
THOUSAND GALLONS OVER 2,000
COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD SECONDED THE MOTION. City Cemetery Property
Mike Loven requested the Council to authorize the sale of approximately 1,500
Norway Pine trees located on City property. He indicated that if the trees sold, he
would request that the money be placed in a separate fund for development of
the new cemetery. The Council concurred.
