PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 5, 2005 MEETING
The regular meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 24 members were
present. The minutes of the meeting were read and approved by a motion by Kirk Larson,
second by Loven, motion passed.
Truck checks were discussed. The Pete was missing the gas can for the chainsaw. The battery
cable cutter, a 1 '/2" spinner nozzle, a 4 '/2" by 4" storz adapter, and tarps were missing. Engine
2 was missing rubber mallets. Engine 3 has no spare air bottles and no 1 '/z" extra hose. Tanker
3 is OK. Tanker 6 is missing the 4" PVC tank to tank siphon and a 4" storz to 2 '/2"threaded
adapter. The van(#4)was low a quart on engine oil and missing one rechargeable smaller
orange flashlight. The light may be missing from the rescue in Loon Lake Township involving
the Reischl girl. Latex gloves and bottles of water were also short on the van. The lights work
on the grass rig. Engine 7 is all OK.
The financial report lists our fire fund balance at $28410.00. The scholarship fund balance is
$697.34 and has already paid the scholarship for this year. Our checking account had a balance
of$3444.00 last month. We purchased 25 '/2 cases of pop for$1236.51, paid $160.00 for the
X-mas gifts for the Lutheran social services, and paid $55.65 for food for the house burn. We
Received a reimbursement check for$647.08 from the city, a$350.00 check for the fireman
calendars from Bridget Murphy, a$500.00 donation from the Breezy Point special events
group, and $64.50 payments for shirts, tees or caps from Chris, Mike and Brian. We also
cleared $420.00 from ice auger entries and $560.00 from raffle ticket sales. Our new balance is
$5643.42.We owe the City$700.00 for Dale Mishuga for the house burn.
There was no correspondence and no information of spring fire schools yet. Daren left early
for his birthday party.
Neil checked with Grand Rapids about the water tender truck. We can just call them when we
are ready to return it. They have a diesel powered hurst tool there that Neil expressed interest
for us.
The Ice Auger event was approved as a go again for next year. We need some kind of a new
gimmick to increase interest. Whitey, the announcer, should not be hired for next year.
The ice rescue sled is ready for operation as the ropes and reels are ready.
We should give Kevin Mahle a gift certificate for his training program he did for us at no
expense. Loven motioned to purchase the gift certificate at Tasty Pizza, second by Szymanski,
motion passed. A discussion was held on if we should do something for Bob and Mary as they
shut down Tasty Pizza for our X-mas party. There were 8 people at the Saturday night card
party at Pelican Lake Conservation Club.
