PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 1, 2006 MEETING
The regular meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, members were
predent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by
Casanova, second by Evenson,motion passed.
Dave Guenther discussed the ice auger competition which will be held January 6d'at
Breezy Point Resort during the ice fest celebration. He mentioned we can decide whether
or not we want to sponsor the event. This will be the 4d'year for the contest. We have
done the event before and after the snow mobile radar runs. The preferred time from
some of the main sponsors of the event is after the radar runs. If we decide to run the
event,we should form a committee of 5 and get all the issues figured out. Strikemaser
Corporation and Chip Leer from Ice Pro are ready and willing to help sponsor the
competition and help us advertise. We need an announcer to run the show. We could ask
Whitey back,or find an area radio celebrity.Dave said he would be willing to do the job
if necessary. We would need more help in securing donations. The department decided to
sponsor the event and a committee of Peterson II,Nordby, Chris Carlson, Kelly Larson,
Selter,Natasha Carlson, and Bridge was formed to decide all the details.
Truck checks were discussed. The Pete(engine 1)was missing a 1 %2"nozzle, a passport
card, the Hurst pump was low on oil,and the check sheet needs to be redone. The missing
nozzle was on found on Tanker 3. Engine 2 (1995 pump truck)has two bulbs burned out
on the front bumper's flashing lights, needs windshield fluid, and the missing hooligan
bar has been returned to the truck after being found at KLKS radio station. Tanker 3
checked all OK. Engine 4 (van)was low on antifreeze and missing a chainsaw. Grass
truck 5 was missing a#2 shovel and the wheel chocks. Tanker 6 was missing a length of
2 Y2"hose. The tender checked OK. Grass truck#9 was missing a brush rake and was
over I axe. The ATV battery was dead and the headlight did not work. The Chief
admitted he took some of these missing items form vehicles to see if we did our job.
A 2 %2"by 1 %2"gated wye he took from a vehicle was not reported missing.
The financial report is the fire fund balance is about$54,000. Our checking account
balance is $5942.66 tonight and we have reimbursements due back from the City for
$338.33 which makes our real balance to be$6280.99. The scholarship fund balance
remains at$1102.67. Bridge owes the fund$10.50 for a tee shirt.
The City Christmas party is planned for Saturday,December 2nd at 6:30 pm at JJ's Pub.
Reservations must be turned in by November 22nd to the Clerk's office.
The safety program for tonight was presented by Casanova. His topic of cold weather fire
fighting information was great. He gave tips for every type of situation we could face and
gave examples of what to be aware of for operation of each type of vehicle we have. He
also made us aware of the possible dangers of dealing with chimney fires. Loven
