W IDSETH
December 4, 2006 SMITH
MOLTING
The Honorable Mayor and City Council
City of Pequot Lakes
PO Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472-0361
RE: Engineering Services for 2007
Dear Mayor and Members of the Council:
Widseth Smith Nolting would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your city engineer in 2006 and
look forward to serving the City in 2007.
We have been working with you since 1993 and think of you as a part of our extended family. We
appreciate our relationship and value the confidence you place in our work.WSN is proud to employ about
60 people in Crow Wing County—some of whom reside in Pequot Lakes—and to reinvest in the
communities we serve.
In 2007,we will continue to attend your monthly Council meetings and answer questions from City Council
Members and City Staff at no cost to the City (this amounted to a number of hours in un-billed time and
services to the City in 2006,which we will calculate for you if requested; in the past, it has been in the
thousands of dollars).
Following is a summary of a few of the projects we worked on with the City this past year, as well as future
projects for 2007:
■ TH 371
We will continue to assist the City in working through all the issues (safety, service roads, city
utilities,cost-sharing, etc.) associated with MnDOT's proposed TH 371 improvements. Although
there have been—and will continue to be--challenging decisions to make,we welcome the
potential opportunities to make Pequot Lakes a better place to live, work, shop, and play.
■ 2006 Pequot Road Improvements
This project is another example, similar to the McGill Street and Evenson Road project of 2005, of
our"measured" involvement, with City staff carrying out some of the services we would have
provided in the past.
■ Various Plat Reviews
With the growth in the area, P&Z has asked us to review several plats. We appreciate the opportunity
to work with the City on coordinating infrastructure with planning and zoning.
■ South Oak Street and Government Drive Improvements
As part of the process started in 2005,we will continue to work toward engineering and funding
solutions for the replacement and expansion of City roadways and utilities in these areas.
7804 Industrial Park Road ■ PO Box 2720 ■ Baxter, MN 56425-2720 ■ TEL:218.829.51 17 ■ rAx: 218.829.2517 ■ WEB:WWW.WSn-mn.com
- ...,, - ,.
