He requested the Council to consider hiring
Brian Madison and Katie Peterson. The Council questioned whether the addition
of part time officers would provide 24/7 coverage for the department. Assistant
Chief Ryan indicated that this would bring the department closer to full coverage
but will not completely allow for 24 hour coverage. He noted that the part time
officers would fill the gaps during vacation and sick time and would alleviate the
need for overtime. He further noted there would be more coverage during the
\., night shifts on weekends.
The Council questioned how the positions would be paid for. Assistant Chief
Ryan indicated that the grant from the restorative justice program would pay for
the two officers this year and next year would be covered by administrative fines
and overtime, which would be eliminated and not have to be budgeted for.
COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO HIRE THE TWO PART TIME
OFFICERS.
