PEQUOT LAKES VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> JOB DESCRIPTIONS / REQUIREMENTS <br /> Effective August, 2006 <br /> This is a general guideline of job descriptions and requirements for a Pequot Lakes Volunteer Firefighter and officers <br /> of this department. This list is not all inclusive. Job descriptions and requirements may change at any time due to <br /> state guidelines/regulations. <br /> Note: Experience on the Pequot Lakes Fire Department of 10 years or more as of December 2006 supersedes required <br /> schooling for officers. <br /> FIREFIGHTER <br /> Requirements <br /> • Normal vision needed with or without correction. Requires both near & far acuity. <br /> • Normal hearing needed. <br /> • Heavy lifting required up to 70 pounds or more. <br /> • Must be physically fit. Must be able to walk, crawl, climb and descend ladders,balance in precarious positions <br /> while lifting or carrying objects. Must be able to work in confined spaces while wearing protective clothing <br /> including self contained breathing apparatus. <br /> • Must pass physical exam required by Pequot Lakes Fire Department <br /> • Must be able to work as a team member under stress caused by emergencies, danger, or criticism and must be <br /> able to work fast while concentrating very hard. <br /> • Must be able to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions and use logic to solve problems <br /> �► Must be willing to work under hazardous conditions: He or she is exposed to many emergency incidents such a,, <br /> fires, rescues, possible exposure to death situations, hazardous material releases, mutual aid emergencies, <br /> disaster operations, and any type of emergency that presents risk to the public. <br /> • Firefighter 1 certification within the 1 st two years on department. <br /> • Attends monthly business meetings and training meetings (1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month) <br /> • Takes 1 class from an accredited sectional school or equivalent every 5 years. <br /> Job Description <br /> • Drives responsibly to the fire station in personally owned vehicles <br /> • Utilizes skills and knowledge to respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls, extinguishes or controls fires <br /> as a member of a team under the supervision of an officer. <br /> • Responds to accidents and assists medical personnel with extrication of injured persons as needed. <br /> • Maintains fire apparatus and equipment as part of a team under the supervision of an officer <br /> • Performs as a driver/operator of fire apparatus under supervision of an officer <br /> • Wears appropriated protective clothing and equipment at all scenes - including self-contained breathing <br /> apparatus (SCBA) depending on potential exposure to smoke or other hazardous materials. <br /> • Communicates with supervisor during fire/rescue operations using portable radios. <br /> • Administers first aid and CPR to injured persons. <br /> • Utilize proper equipment in fire attack and other fire scene functions, or other functional requirements as <br /> needed and instructed by the incident command officer at the scene of emergency. <br /> • Reports directly to officer in charge on scene—captains, safety officer, assistant chiefs and ultimately chief 1. <br /> • Knowledge and adherence to all department policies <br /> `''• Follows general operating guidelines. <br />
