• The City currently allows limited personal use of City computers during non-work hours <br /> when they are not being used for City business. City computers are not to be used to <br /> manage any part of a private business or for political or criminal activity. No personal <br /> software or hardware is to be used on City computers. Supervisors who determine that <br /> such uses are interfering with City business or are otherwise inconsistent with a <br /> positive public image may prohibit specific personal uses. <br /> Guidelines <br /> The following guidelines apply to all electronic media and s es at are accessed on <br /> or from City premises, accessed using City computer equi t and/or used in a manner <br /> that identifies the individual with the City. <br /> • Electronic media may not be used for knowingly tan tting, eving, or storing any <br /> communications that are derogatory to any in al group, s e or X-rated, <br /> defamatory or threatening, for the circul4an cha letters", or for other purpose <br /> that is illegal, against City policies, or coto the City's interes <br /> • The City may monitor electronic info cr ed and/or communicated by an <br /> employee. The following should be note <br /> • The City reserves the right to monitor an a oyee's use of electronic systems for <br /> the purpose of training and/or evaluating jo a mance. Use of the City's electronic <br /> media d servic to solicit commercial ventures, religious or political causes, outside <br /> organiza s, o her non-job-related solicitations are prohibited. <br /> • Electronic and services should not be used in a manner that is likely to cause <br /> network co estion or significantly hamper the ability of other people to access and <br /> use the system. <br /> • Anyone obtaining electronic access to other companies' or individuals' materials must <br /> respect all copyrights and may not copy, retrieve, modify, or forward copyrighted <br /> materials, trade secrets, proprietary financial information, or similar materials without <br /> prior authorization. <br /> • Any messages or information sent by an employee to one or more individuals via an <br /> electronic network, whether external to the City or internal, are attributable to the City. <br /> All communications sent by employees via a network must comply with this and other <br /> City policies and may not disclose any confidential or proprietary information.
