TECHNOLOGY POLICY <br /> Purpose <br /> The City of Pequot Lakes (City) maintains electronic forms of communication and information <br /> exchange to assist with the operations of city government. The purpose of this policy is to <br /> assist the City in protecting its electronic data systems security and assets, to protect the <br /> privacy rights of employees, to manage City resources and to protect the rights of third <br /> parties for appropriate access to City files. <br /> This document sets forth the City's policies with regard to ss and use of computer <br /> hardware, software, data, and electronic mail messages. I o s forth the City's policies <br /> with regard to disclosure of computer files, created or recei , ore ronic mail messages <br /> sent or received by City employees with the use a ty's co ut resources or <br /> electronic mail system. <br /> The electronic systems, including computers ail, %lephones, radios, pagers, cellular <br /> phones, fax machines, and access to the Internet, main at all times the property of <br /> the City. As such, all messages created, sent, rece d, or stored in the system are, and <br /> remain, property of the City. <br /> The City intends to honor these p i bu es the r t to change them at any time. All <br /> employees that work with the City's a ctro ' e nt are responsible for reading and <br /> adhering to these policies. <br /> Misuse of any of the 's to nology p is may result in disciplinary action up to and <br /> including termination <br /> Computers <br /> Gene <br /> • All da hall be s red on network servers. The workstation hard drive (the "C" drive) <br /> is not ba d u the server. Also, the process of re-configuring workstations as the <br /> environm a nges may at any time result in the loss of data stored on the <br /> workstation' and drive. <br /> • Because the storage capacity of the network is limited, all users are responsible for <br /> deleting outdated files. <br /> • Users shall not change their system's configuration or take other steps to defeat virus <br /> protection devices or systems. Individual employees are responsible for verifying that <br /> disks used or received from outside computers are scanned for viruses prior to their <br /> use in City computers. <br /> • Computer users shall identify themselves to the system by signing on with their <br /> assigned user name. Users shall not attempt to sign on to the system with any other <br /> user name. <br /> 1 <br />
