1. Duration: Every original appointment and every promotional <br /> `. appointment is subject to a probationary period of six (6) months after <br /> appointment and may be extended for an additional six (6) months. <br /> 2. Completion: An employee who has completed the period or <br /> probationary service and who has not received, before completion of that <br /> period, a written notice from the department head that his/her services are <br /> terminated, shall be considered to have successfully completed the <br /> probationary period. <br /> 3. Termination: The City Council may terminate a probationary <br /> employee at any time during the probationary period for reasons including, <br /> but not limited to; if in the City's determination the working text indicates <br /> that the employee is unable or unwilling to perform the duties of the position <br /> satisfactorily, or that his/her habits and dependability do not merit <br /> continuance in this position. The probationary employee so terminated shall <br /> be notified in writing of the reasons for the termination and shall not have <br /> the right to appeal unless he/she is a military veteran, in which case the <br /> procedure prescribed in Minn. Statutes, Section 197.46 shall be followed. <br /> The City Council may accept the recommendations of department heads in <br /> terminating employees. An employee terminated during the probationary <br /> period from a position to which he/she was transferred or promoted and not <br /> terminated from the city service as provided in these rules, shall be placed <br /> on leave of absence without pay. When a vacancy arises in a class from <br /> which the employee was promoted or transferred, such employee shall be <br /> reinstated to that position. <br /> 4. " Job Transfer Within Organization: An employee who was transferred <br /> or promoted to another position within the City shall comply with the <br /> probation period requirements. The one exception is that the employee is not <br /> prohibited from taking accumulated sick time or vacation time during the <br /> probation period. <br /> 3. COMPENSATION <br /> The City Council of Pequot Lakes recognizes the need to provide a fair and <br /> equitable pay program for the city employees. To ensure that objective; the <br /> Council has approved the creation of a pay structure that meets specific <br /> goals. <br /> 5 <br />
