FAWW-
Association
May 31, 2006
Mayor Cathy Malecha
Members of the City Council
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Dear Mayor Malecha and Council Members,
Two years ago,the East Twin Lake Association embarked on a broad lake management planning
initiative. The intent of this initiative is to maintain and, hopefully, improve the visual,
ecological, recreational and environmental quality of East Twin Lake over the next 20 years. A
side benefit would be to act as a model for other city based lake associations to use in developing
similar plans. As you know, the initiative was funded by the City and the Community Growth
Institute provided professional consulting expertise to guide us through the process.
In the planning process, which included surveys, small group meetings and community
workshops, the Lake Association identified seven key issues to address. We also developed
specific goals and strategies to be used in implementing the issues. I am very pleased to inform
you that at our recent Annual Meeting (May 27),the Association took two very important steps
regarding this initiative. First, we unanimously passed the following resolution:
• `Be it resolved by the East Twin Lake Association that the Association has completed
their lake management planning study and have identified seven(7) issues of concern,
that these issues will begin to be addressed in the near future, and that we want to
formally thank the City of Pequot Lakes for the grant that paid for the leadership and
counsel of Community Growth to guide us through the process. Finally, the Association
appreciated having the opportunity to participate in the study."
Second, the Association decided to begin working on two of the initiatives over the course of the
next year. The initiatives selected were Issue Two: Pollution and Issue Five: Habitat and
Ecology.
Once again the East Twin Lake Association thanks you for your support of this important
initiative.
Sincerely,
Thomas H. Adams
President, East Twin Lake Association
P.O.Box 333 • Pequot Lakes,MN 56472
