Minutes of the Pequot Lakes Community Library
Board Meeting
April 18, 2006
President Nancy Adams called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Present:
Nancy Adams, Lydia Loven, Claire Nagel, Sam Hennies, Dave Anderson,
and Ann Hutchings (for a bit). John Longnecker was absent. Mary Pfeiffer
represented the City Council. There were no guests.
Lydia Loven moved, and Sam Hennies seconded, that the minutes of the
March 21, 2006, meeting be approved as written. Motion carried.
The financial report was examined. As of April 17, 2006, there was
$5,008.89 in the checking account, $30,513.70 in the Endowment,
$10,108.38 in the "Rainy Day" fund, and $12,099.49 in the savings account.
Dave Anderson, Business Manager, pointed out that, for accounting
purposes desired by the city auditor, all interest earned on the above
accounts is shown as being in the checking account (even though it is
actually still in the CD's. Motion carried.
Committee Reports:
Volunteers are doing well. Summer volunteers should be returning
within a month or so.
Library programs continue to progress. Viking Label in Nisswa will be the next targeted business.
Planning for the Summer Reading Program is well under way. Three
educational programs are planned with, hopefully, grant money to be
received from the Initiative Foundation. Tot Expo is this Saturday at Eagle
View School. Nancy Adams and Cathy Malecha will represent the library.
The $800 grant from Crow Wing Power has been spent on juvenile non-
fiction materials, books on the 50 states. This money will be supplemented
with an additional $150 from our materials fund to cover excess cost of this
set of books.
Ideas were discussed for the Echo column that Claire Nagel writes.
Claire is also going to help design Summer Reading Program materials.
Plans for the fundraising tea are well set. Pie and ice cream will be sold
again for Fourth of July, Bean Hole Day, and Taste of Pequot. We will sell
our own ice cream this year; either Kemps (New York Vanilla) or Schwans.
Mary Pfeiffer will check on the cost of Schwans from her representative.
We are also able to store the ice cream at the drug store until the moment it
