Housing &Redevelo 0 pmentfluthority
Pequot Lakes
U19
`.(' West Grove Townbomes•Sibley Terrace•Parkview I&II'Alpine Apts.
March 30, 2006
To: Pequot Lakes City Council
Mayor Cathy Malecha
Clerk Sand Peine
The Pequot Lakes Housing Authority is involved in the acquisition of the Joe Buschmann
property, on South Oak Dr. At the March City Council meeting, the HRA informed the
council that a purchase agreement had been signed for the property legally described as
Lots 21, 22, 23, 24 of the Biggs Addition. It is the intention of the HRA to subdivide the
property for the construction of three new affordable homes.
Attached is a proposal for subdividing the property. The average cost for this would be
in the $5,500 range. The old structures on the property will have to be removed. It is
planned that they will be burned by the local fire department, but an inspection will be
required, which will cost anywhere from $500- $1,000. This is state requirement for all
fire departments that burn old structures. Additional costs will be removal of the burned
debris with a probable cost of$1,000.
The HRA respectfully requests the city's participation in these costs by one half. That
amount would be $3,750. In addition,we request you consider waiving the water and
sewer fees for the construction of these new homes. Your participation in the HRA's
goal of providing affordable homes in Pequot Lakes is vital to our program. We are
removing older structures and replacing them with new homes for families. This
program provides for a more stable community at the same time increasing the tax base.
Th o for your support!
baron T low
Executive Director
31203 N.Oak St.P.O.Box 243•Pequot Lakes,MN56472.218-568-4555.218-568-8968(Fax) •pequotlakes.govofice.com
