The department's truck committee has been working on plans for a new engine. There are ^
numerous decisions that have to be made for planning a new pumping engine involving
new technology and designs. The committee is planning to finance the purchase with a
USDA (LJnited States Department of Agriculture) financing program. They are offering a
20 year financing plan at 3`/z%. Other fmancing competitors will only offer 10 year plans
which would double the rates. A public hearing to approve the financing will be held at
the November Council meeting. We should be approved as soon as funds are
appropriated in 2013.
Our Engine 2 stationed at the Breezy Point station has pump problems. A hole was found
in the pLUnp's housing and the stripper plates which pull water out of the impeller were
worn down 1'/2 inch. The 1995 engine has had a lot of use. A new pump and pump
transmission is needed at a cost of $13,000.00. The cost to repair the old pump and
transmission were more than installing new ones. The truck is being repaired at the Lino
Lakes manufacturing facility and should be ready by late November. We are hoping to
get another 12 years of service from the engine which would be 30 years old at that time.
The 2011 State Fire Marshal's report tells us 30% of our fire incidents are actual fires.
The state average for departments is much lower.
Chief Nelson recently attended a Fire Chief's Conference in Duluth. He reported there
was lots of good information and new equipment displays available.
--.
Meeting adjourned.
-
