\ <br />� <br />PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br />NIINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 24, 2012 MEETING <br />The quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson. <br />Members in attendance were Hart, Benson, Pederson, Dubay, Sodd, Weaver, Rudberg, <br />Nelson, Peterson, Donovan, and Bartels. The minutes of the last meeting were not read <br />but approved by a motion by Benson, second by Donovan, motion passed. <br />The third quarter fire call report totaled 26 calis, By types there werel4 good intent, 3 <br />structure, 3 assist police, 2 motor vehicle accident/rescue, 1 smoke filled apartment no <br />fire, 1 medical assist, 1 outdoor fire, and 1 gas leak. By location there were 13 in Pequot <br />Lakers, 9 in the City of Breezy Point, 2 in Moose Lake Township, 2 in Jenkins Township, <br />1 in Loon Lake Township, 1 in Pelican Township, and 1 in the City of Lakeshore. Last <br />year there were 26 calls during this time period. <br />Eight fire bills that totaled $5100.00 were sent. <br />Training hours were 17 during the third quarter. By types there were 8 hours live house <br />burn, 3 hours search and rescue with SCBA operation, 3 hours specialty tool operation, <br />and 3 hours gross decontamination. <br />The financial report was discussed. Insurance costs include 2011 fees which were paid in <br />2012. Legal fees were for preparing the USDA financial application and for inspection of <br />�" new deparhnent by-laws. Our 2012 budget was approved in September of 2011 before <br />Maple Township dropped our fire contract. This caused a$14,000.00 loss in revenue for <br />2012. We received training cost reimbursements and a federal grant which helped offset <br />the deficit. Rudberg motioned to approve the financial report, second by Donovan, <br />motion passed. <br />� <br />Mike Peterson resigned from the department with 10 years of service and moved out of <br />the area. Trevor Lang was approved as a new fire fighter. The department burned a house <br />purchased by Grace Methodist Church that was adjacent to their property. We sponsored <br />a fire prevention program for kindergarten through second grade students at Eagle View <br />Elementary School and also some local day care facilities. An open house was held at our <br />fire station during fire prevention week and was well attended. Two reciprocating saws <br />were purchased to help our auto extrication abilities. A$1000.00 matching grant was <br />awarded to us from the DNR. The Breezy Point Women's Club gave us a$300.00 <br />donation. <br />The department has received the new 800 megahertz radios required by the federal <br />government. Mobile radios are installed in our vehicles and hand held radios are a11 in <br />operation. A new radio tower will be constructed in Pequot Lakes and be in operation by <br />mid December. A FEMA grant paid for 80% of the radios cost. <br />
