PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 4, 2006 MEETING
The regular meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 26 members were
present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by Rickard,
second by Evenson, motion passed.
Nordby declined his election to the Safety Officer position and Peterson II accepted his
old position back again for the year.
Truck checks followed. The Peterbuilt has several revisions that need to be made on the
check list The missing beal tool was found on top of the truck. Also the rear tires were
low on pressure and one small rechargeable flash light is missing. Engine 2 was all OK
and had an extra 2 '/2" by 1 '/z" gated wye and an extra 6" by 4 '/2" adapter. Engine 3 was
missing one pass alarm on an air pack. Everything else was OK. Engine 4 was missing
passport cards, a small flash light, and a purple K extinguisher There is an extinguisher
on the floor behind where the van is parked. The missing flash light is defective and
needs to be replaced. The blade on the rescue saw needs to be replaced. Engine 5 is all
OK. Tanker 6 is missing a 4" storz to 2 '/2" adapter. It also needs to be serviced. The
tender is all OK. The ice auger needs fuel. Grass truck#9 is missing a hand lantern and
safety glasses. The gas can has been filled..
Air pack#4 needs a new face shield and pack#13 has a bad seal and needs repair.
The financial report for our checking account lists the balance as $6114.64. We deposited
a$220.00 payment from Tim for the old pump from the tender and for sausage. We
received a$50.00 donation from TDS for the scholarship fund. Bills paid during the
month were made to Ideal Fire, $400.00 for 200 used chairs, $455.00 for seven jackets,
$52.23 for pop and water. The scholarship fund balance is $1044.52. The balance of the
general fire fund is just over$40,000 as all areas have paid their contracts. The 2006
budget is up a small percentage. We really could use more fire hose.
We are checking on fire fighter physicals. Costs and how often they are done will be
figured out.
The fire call at Chris Carlson's house was discussed. The main floor was gone when we
arrived at the scene. The second floor came down within 10 minutes after arrival. Nobody
made any entry to the structure. There was a leak on the rear suction hose fitting which
caused the pump to loose prime a couple of times before the problem was corrected. We
probably could have used a second pump truck on the scene. Accountability was pretty
good, but very difficult to keep track because attacks to the structure were made from all
four sides. The Chief called for the fire marshal to investigate the house even though
there was no suspicion of arson. This is a good practice to be done for any fire fighter's
fire, so no rumors or bad feelings develop.
