i
I
F
PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 3,2007 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 26 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by
Evenson, second by Varilek, motion passed.
All pictures of fire fighters are done and on the board now.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 needs new wiper blades. Engine 2
was not checked, and it has all new batteries. Engine 3 has brake lights that do not work
on the driver's side. Rescue 1 needs some two cycle oil. Rescue 2 needs a new chainsaw
chain and the brakes need work. The new stokes basket is on Rescue 2. Grass 1 has the
turn signal arm that does not work right. Grass 2's water pump engine's carburetor needs
to be rebuilt. Tanker 1's brake lights do not work. Tanker 2 is good. Tanker 3 is missing
passport cards. Tender 1 and the ATV are good. There are two air packs with bad shut off
valves and there were two masks that had all the straps tight.
The financial report lists our new check balance at $4759.47. During the month we paid
$2846.08 for supplies for the sound and video system in the training room, paid $11.72
for 2 cases of pop, and paid $100.31 for food for the multi department training held at
Eagle View. The scholarship fund balance is $1467.47. The balance of the fire fund is
approximately $60,000.
The equipment order from the DNR grant has came in. We have 300 feet of new hi-vol
hose, lots of new standard hose, a new gas monitor for the Breezy station, and 2 new
nozzles.
For correspondence, Mr. "O" is promoting rotary roses for $15.00 per dozen. Delivery
dates for the roses are October 25th and 26th. There was also a letter from Knox box
company asking if our city has a ordinance for requirement of these boxes for all new
construction.
The safety issue for tonight is that our radios are extremely busy during some times and
use of cell phones could be a help. We also have no present back-up power available for
City Hall. During power outages, we have no electricity for operation of our radios or
power to open doors. The Chief will speak to Jerry Brahm about these concerns.
The fire prevention program for Eagle View will start at 12:45 pm on Tuesday, the 9t'.
Our open house will be Wednesday, October lot' from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Features will be
fire truck rides and fire extinguishers. Popcorn and hot chocolate will be served.
The Chief would like the sound and video system all done for our open house.
We have new maps for Cass and Crow Wing counties.
