PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 5, 2007 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 27 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by
Loven, second by Rickard, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 has the bad light switches in the
pump operator's compartment. Engine 2 and 3 are good. Tankers 1, 2, and 3 are good,
except Tanker 3 is missing a passport card. Tender 1 is missing a 4" to 5" storz adapter.
Grass rig 1 and 2 are good. Grass rig 1 has the turn signal switch that works sometime.
The ATV is OK. Rescue 1 and 2 are OK. The air packs are all certified now and all check
good.
The financial report lists our checking balance at $7717.58 tonight. During the month we
paid $41.74 for the Mac hood ornament, reimbursed Tasha$78.38 for photos and fax
bills, paid Fyles $101.30 for the porta potties for the pancake breakfast, purchased pop
for$34.85, and paid $320.00 for the Palisade fire rodeo. We deposited $101.91 which
included $100.00 for the scholarship fund from TDS and $1.91 change from a car we did
extrication on. The scholarship fund balance is now $1467.47. The fire fund balance is
about $70,466.00
\.. Schwankl reminded the group that the Breezy police are complaining that we are leaving
the Breezy hall doors open during fire calls and that supposed to be a secure building.
Please try to comply with their wishes.
There is no correspondence tonight.
Safety issues are the reminder of the Boston fire department that lost fire fighters when
roof mounted hvac units fell on them. We have to be aware of this possibility during any
entry of a building. We have experienced many gas leaks lately, which have been minor,
but be reminded that these can become ugly real fast. The situation where the Breezy
Point cabin was filled with natural gas when lightning struck the tracer wire and melted
the gas line could have been nasty. We have to be very careful. Oaks suggested we try to
have more man power standing by closer to a scene, just in case trouble happens.
The Breezy station SOP makes it clear to not leave alone in a department vehicle during
night time calls. During day time calls, when not many fire fighters are around, one may
have to leave alone. If this happens notify other department members of your situation by
radio.
The City council has approved all our Officer's job descriptions.
The training recently held at Eagle View elementary school went very well. This joint
training session with other area departments may be done again in the future.
