� <br />City of <br />Pequot <br />Lakes — - <br />Option 2— Poly Pig or Ice Pig the distribution system, (only the cast pipe). I have sent <br />maps of the Cities distribution system to Infratech, Inc. to get an idea of the cost to Poly <br />Pig some of the oldest water mains. This method physically scours the inside of the mains <br />to rid them of collected scale. This method can be very effective in not only reducing the <br />scale but can also have a side benefit of lowering chlorine costs. But as I stated earlier it <br />has a down side. <br />The cost estimate (low) for this process is $220.00 per hour and each poly pig costs <br />$30.00. If we have them here for five 10 hour days it would cost $1100.00 in labor. If we <br />don't have the right amount of gate valves in the right places we might not get all the <br />lines desirable. Were probably looking at about $2500.00 min to $5000.00 max to pig the <br />northwest part of town. I cannot get Infratech to put it in writing as of this date. <br />Option 3— Chemical addition of a blend of Ortho/poly phosphate. This option has the <br />City adding the same chemical that other towns use to control lead and copper leaching. <br />This chemical coats the inside of the pipes with a calcium layer so to speak and can <br />reduce or stop the further decaling of the Cities water main. <br />Hawkins has estimated the cost of $1.50 / lb of product <br />`— Carus chemical has estimated the cost at 1.40 / lb of Carus 8100 with a feed rate of 2.2 <br />gallons per million gallons. <br />Last year we produced 35 million gallons; 35x2.2 = 77 gallons of Carus 8100 a 55 gallon <br />drum costs $877.40 plus the feed pump at about $600.00 <br />� <br />On September 26, 2012 we were inspected by the department of health, he reaffirmed to <br />me that this is not a health issue, that the iron and manganese test results are under the <br />minimum standards for drinking water. I asked him about the chlorine theory and he said <br />that he had never heard of chlorine pills causing this problem. I asked him about the new <br />water plant causing the issue with the cleaner water causing the scale to weaken. He <br />wasn't sure about that but it's possible.
