PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD
MINUTES OF THE APRIL 25, 2007 MEETING
The quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order. The minutes of the last meeting
were approved by a motion by Messerschmidt, second by Thurlow, motion passed.
The first quarter fire call report totaled 19 calls. There were 8 good intent calls, 4 mutual
aid structure, 3 motor vehicle fires, 2 assist North Ambulance, 1 mutual aid motor vehicle
accident/rescue, and 1 structure fire. By location, there were 7 to Pequot Lakes, 4 to Ideal
Township, 2 to Breezy Point, and 1 each to Nisswa, Pine River, Loon Lake Township,
Maple Township, Jenkins Township, and Jenkins City. Last year we had 20 calls during
this period.
Messerschmidt commented that Maple Township was discussing contracting with Pine
River for fire protection. They decided to stay with us when Pine River's contract rates
were more. We are able to respond quicker to most of Maple Township's residences
because of our location. Thurlow also commented that our fire contract rates are
reasonable compared with other rates in our region.
The training report listed 11 hours of live house burns, 6 hours of RIT team training, 3
hours of bloodborne pathogens, 3 hours of CPR certification, 3 hours of ice rescue, 2
hours of hazardous materials, and 2 hours of AED certification. This totaled 30 hours.
Fire bills sent were 4 that totaled $1500.00.
The financial report was discussed. The capital outlay expense was for the new meeting
and training room. Thurlow motioned to approve the report, second by Oraskovich,
motion passed.
The Pelican Township new contracted area has been completed and is in effect.
The training and meeting room project is almost done.
Our four new fire fighters have all passed the fire fighter I training. They are Scott
Warner, John Hayes, David Wilson, and Matt Zins.
We hosted the March meeting of the Cuyuna Range Fire Association here at our new
meeting room on March 15a'.
We helped with the Polar Plunge fund raiser at Breezy Point on March I&.
Mike Peterson, our fire fighter serving with the National Guard in Iraq, was injured when
a roadside bomb struck the humvee he was riding in. He suffered facial cuts and
traumatic conditions, but is OK.
