PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE APRIL 4, 2007 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 27 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and corrected that Kirk Larson
was not present at the last meeting and we received a map with all the haz-mat areas
marked from the Pequot School, not the Breezy Point Resort. A motion to approve the
minutes was made by Loven, second by Wendt, motion passed.
Truck checks were discussed. T1 was missing a step ladder and a fire extinguisher. The
ladder was used in our meeting room. T3 has an air leak which can be repaired. T2 was
missing a gas can, a DNR fire jacket, a pike pole, and some fittings. All the grass trucks
were rigged for the grass fire season and ready to go. G1 was OK. G2 was also OK, but
needs an oil change and the belts replaced. R1 was missing a small axe, a pry bar, a
purple K extinguisher is outdated, and was over 2 SCBA's. R2 was OK. E1 was OK. E2
was missing an orange lantern. E3 has no brake lights, but all else is OK. WTI was a
quart low on oil and could use a change.
The financial report for our checkbook is the balance tonight is $5467.26. During the
month we paid $67.69 for pop and deposited $210.00 for hosting the Cuyuna Range
meeting and $105.45 for reimbursements from the City. The balance of our scholarship
fund is 4852.67. The fire fund is about$600.00 in the red. We still do not have the refund
for the defective carpet in the amount of$904.00.
The city has approved the fire contract for the new areas of Pelican Township. A map and
letter were discussed concerning the new boundaries. A copy was given to everyone. The
contract is in effect, so if we are paged to this area, respond to the call. John W.
mentioned Pelican Township would make donations to our department if we attend their
meeting and make a presentation for our request.
Our 4 new fire fighters have all passed the fire fighter 1 classes and test. Dan Loven
passed the fire fighter 2 test.
A resignation letter from Kelly Larson was read. He has lost interest and feels that he is
not capable of required attendance at meetings and calls. A motion by Kirk Larson was to
accept his resignation, second by Loven, motion passed.
Mike Peterson was injured in Iraq when a roadside bomb hit his hummer. He suffered
facial cuts and traumatic conditions, but is OK. Other soldiers in the vehicle were also
injured, but they are all OK also.
The safety topic tonight is to make sure the auto ejecting air and power cords for the
vehicles are ejected before driving off. There have been reports that on several occasions
the lines did not automatically release.
