PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 10, 2007 MEETING The meeting of the PLAFD was called to order by Chairman Peterson. Members in attendance were Benson, Oraskovich, Thuirlow, Murphy, Weaver, Malecha, Nelson, Peterson, and City Clerk Peine. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by Benson, second by Thurlow, motion passed. The fourth quarter fire call report totaled 18 calls. By types, there were 4 grass fires, 4 motor vehicle accident/rescue, 3 good intent, 2 mutual aid structure, 2 structure fires, 1 gas leak, 1 motor vehicle fire, and 1 hazardous materials spill. By location there were 7 to Pequot Lakes, 4 to Breezy Point, 3 to City of Jenkins, 1 to Jenkins Township, 1 to Nisswa, and 1 to Mission Township. We had 90 calls in 2006 and 78 in 2005. The training report for the fourth quarter was 16 hours, which consisted of 3 hours of ice rescue, 3 hours of pump truck operation, 3 hours of auto extrication with search and rescue, 3 hours of RIT team training, 3 hours of intensive rescue training, and 1 hour of cold weather fire fighting. Fire bills sent in the fourth quarter were 11 that totaled $5540.00. The City will bill contracted areas once a year for uncollectible fire calls. The fourth quarter financial report was discussed. Debt service principal and interest were the payments for the Peterbuilt. The report was approved by a motion by Thurlow, second by Peine, motion passed. The DNR tank truck project is done. The total cost was about $17,000. The Breezy Point fire station has been used frequently for training by the department. Mayor Weaver asked about fire fighters response to stations. Fire fighters residing in the Breezy Point area respond to Breezy's station. The department is working out the policies and guidelines of who respond where and what happens next. The Breezy station will be used for CPR and AED training in January. The FEMA grant application was denied again this year. The government is out of money. Some other possibilities for future grants may be Crow Wing Power, Minnesota Power, Grand Casino, Hunt Technologies, and TDS. We recently received donations from TDS for $450.00 for safety glasses, other safety equipment, and the scholarship fund. The City has received a letter from Pelican Township expressing interest in a fire contract to take effect this spring. More information from the County will be needed to estimate what their contract fee will be.
