MEMORANDUM
TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: MAYOR MALECHA
DATE: JANUARY 2, 2007
SUBJECT: HIGHWAY 371 STUDY GROUP
The Planning Commission has discussed the option of meeting jointly with the City
Council to study the Around-town option.
I concur with the Planning Commission's recommendation. It is my recommendation to
the Council that we meet jointly with the Planning Commission to study the Around-
Town process. The meetings would be on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00—
8:00 p.m. for a two-hour period. We would also include the City Engineer, City Planner,
and MnDOT officials in the study process. I would propose that all independent groups
that are interested be notified of the meetings. Although these meetings would probably
be workshops, they would be open to the public and there could be a time for public
comments so as to incorporate all concerns into the study. It would be possible to have a
representative from concerned groups so as to have a spokesperson in the audience.
Having joint meetings with the Planning Commission and Council would eliminate the
need for extra meetings and speed the process up considerably.
I am proposing that the first meeting be January 18, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. My
recommendation is that this first meeting be comprised of the Planning Commission and
Council with the intention of putting together a plan to proceed with this process.
