Pequot Lakes Housing & Redevelopment Authority
P.O. Box 243, Pequot Lakes, Minnesota 56472
218-568-4555
Sibley Terrace • Parkview I & 11 • Alpine Apartments
April 21, 2005
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission:
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority does hereby object to the Request for
Variance from Cork and Shelia Holley, on the property located on the corner of Pequot
Blvd. and Brown Street, in Pequot Lakes. Our objections are based upon the following:
1) The current ordinances detailing required setbacks are currently enforce.
2) The property setbacks as proposed for the dwelling are extreme in their
encroachment.
3) The applicants have no hardship in this case, as a smaller dwelling can be
constructed to meet the setbacks.
4) There are many other corner properties with older dwellings in the city, similar to
this property. The HRA has previously indicated their interest in obtaining such
properties for the purpose of constructing new affordable homes. Planning and
Zoning has made it clear that current ordinance setbacks would prohibit this
construction if the building envelope was not great enough, due to the setbacks.
The property in question should be no exception.
5) The HRA feels that in all fairness to other property owners, and to the Housing
and Redevelopment Authority, this Variance Request should be denied.
6) In granting this variance, the Planning Commission will be setting a precedent.
S Varon
Executive Director
Pequot Lakes HRA
218-568-4555
