To: City of Pequot Lakes Panning and Zoning Commission
Concerning: Variance request by Thomas and Janice Link
My name is Elaine May, my daughter, Alison May and I own the property at 5895
Inland Trails Road, in Pequot Lakes.
In October of 2007, I spoke with Mr. Links's contractor and expressed concern that the
cement blocks for the new garage appeared to be too close to the property line.
Mr. Link called me and said he knew where the property line was.
I suggested we have the property surveyed and I would be willing to split the cost.
Mr. Link denied my offer and the garage was built.
Spring 2008: I consulted with my brother(a business and real estate owner),two real
estate agents, a survey company, and the man who will handle my estate upon my death.
All advised me to have the property surveyed as this could affect the value of my
IN1.1 property.
I am saddened by this unfortunate incident. When I spoke with Mr. Link in the fall of
2007, he assured me he would not store anything of the side of the garage closest to me.
However, he did. He chose to store his pontoon trailer there. His actions precipitated me
to have the property at 5895 Inland Trails Road surveyed.
I am disappointed in Mr. Links disregard for the effect on my property and the disregard
of the city ordinances of Pequot Lake.
Should you choose to grant this variance, I request the following: to be reimbursed for the
cost of surveying my property and a legal agreement which would prevent anything
from being stored on the side of the garage closest to my property line.
Sincerely,
Elaine May
