MINUTES <br /> PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> MAY 20, 2010 <br /> 7:00 PM <br /> PRESENT: Bill Habein, Deb Brown,Tom Adams,Tom Woog,Scott Pederson,John Derksen, <br /> Cheri Seils, Mark Hallan(arrived at 7:55pm) <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> CITY PLANNER: Ben Oleson,AICP <br /> ZONING ADMINISTRATOR:Absent <br /> CITY COUNCIL LIASIONS: Craig Nagel and Tom Ryan <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chairman Woog at 7:03 pm. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> APPLICANT: City of Pequot Lakes <br /> Ordinance Amendment to allow Digital Signs <br /> City Planner Oleson explained that Staff had prepared two options for the Council to amend the <br /> ordinance.The first option would allow for digital signs,but only those that change no more <br /> often than once per hour.The second option would ban digital signs by clarifying that the <br /> existing ban on"intermittently lighted signs"includes digital signs. <br /> Chairman Woog asked the public if they had any comments on this application.There were <br /> none. <br /> Bill Habein preferred the option allowing for digital signs, stating that it would still not allow <br /> flashing signs and would not be much different than signs where the text can be changed <br /> manually. <br /> Deb Brown stated she was concerned where the amendment will take the City. <br /> Tom Adams said he had been tilting toward allowing digital signs,but has rethought it. He <br /> suggests that we leave the language as it is since the City has already spent a lot of time on <br /> signage. <br /> Chairman Woog agrees that the City has already done visioning and that people didn't want <br /> Pequot Lakes to be like Baxter.Woog doesn't feel that digital signs create the right image. <br /> Scott Pederson stated that his thoughts might be surprising,but that he recently drove through <br /> Hackensack and Cromwell,MN and that he felt their digital signs were not attractive.
