During the years that Maple Township contracted with us there rate wen# from $3500.00
per year to approximately $14,000 this year. A big factor for this increase was that their
building valuation increased from 3.5 million dollars to 14 million from 2002 to 2012.
Our fair share fire contract policy shares the cost of operation of the fire deparhnent as
equally as we can using a comparison of building valuation and the actual hours the
department serves each area during the year. This calculation process is averaged over a
ten yeaz time period so contract ra.tes are stable.
The fire department's engine committee has been planning what type of pump truck is
best for our department and how we can finance the purchase. The present engines the
department has are a 1978, a 1995 and a 2003. Realistically we have an aging fleet. In
order to meet ISO standards our department needs another engine to satisfy requizements
for water flow. Our contracted areas have a higher percenta.ge of commercial buildings
than our neighboring fire departments have. A new engi.ne should lower our ISO ra.te
which would lower insurance rates.
The committee has a finance rate offer of 3.5 % from the USDA during 2012. The
payments for a new engine aur committee has planned for would be about the same as we
were making for our Peterbuilt engine. This would assure our fire contract rates will be
about the same as they have been for the next several years.
Donovan motioned the Fire Board approve the plan to purchase the new engine vith the
same payments as we have had in the past years. Barteis second the motion. The motion
 passed unanimously.
Chief Nelson informed the Board the deparlment will be burning some ostrich barns in
Breezy Point this Saturday.
Chief Nelson also informed the Board that hazardous materials inspection fees have
increased from $450.00 to $550.00 for buildings the department burns.
On a somewhat related thought Benson informed the Board of the sta.te's decision to
demolish the nursery at Badoura and pay huge fees to have asbestos removed from their
buildings before they are leveled.
Our next scheduled meeting is October 31St, which is Halloween. With everyone's
approval the meeting date was changed to October 24'.
Sjoblad motioned to adjourn, second by Bensan, meeting adjourned.
NE7T MEETING Uctober 24, 2012 at 7 pm (mark your calendar)
