Crosswalks:
Marking crosswalks is an easy, cheap, and effective way to increase the safety of
pedestrians. Generally, cities will use the white lines or blocks to mark pedestrian
crosswalks. These crosswalks are functional, but not always aesthetically pleasing.
An alternative option for sidewalks is"special intersection paving". This technique uses
decorative paving, including colored and/or textured concrete, asphalt or pavers to
identify the crosswalk area. The stamping/scoring and coloring of the surface gives the
crossing the look of brick or stone. Although it is more expensive, it is much more
aesthetically pleasing and contributes to the overall "feel" of the street.
Standard crosswalks:
Stamped crosswalks:
r
Pequot Lakes Staff Report 4
March 21,2013
