Photo 4: The heart of the City. The intersection of CSAH ii and Highway 317 is the
convergence point of the "gateways" to the City. With the future reconstruction and
-- possible turn-back of CSAH ii and the possible turn-back of existing Highway 371, the
City should focus its efforts on making this intersection the centerpiece of the city. With
the Trailside Park adjacent to this intersection and other development opportunities, this
area has a lot of potential.
The existing roadway is very wide, and is not designed as a city street. It has two driving
lanes, a center turn lane, a right turn lane (north bound) and a paved shoulder (south
bound). Last month the Planning Commission reviewed the concept of "road diets."
This is a prime example of a street section that needs to be significantly reduced in width
so it may function as a city street. The paved area literally should be cut in half or more
in order to properly function.
,,
a
n HS,
- D .
3
D
R.
Pequot Lakes Staff Report 4
June 20,2013
