The subject property is located on the north side of East Twin lake
and is zoned"Shoreline Residential."
It has been determined the height of the structure exceeds the maximum height allowed
for accessory structures in the"Shoreline Residential"zone.
The Planning Commission has offered two options to remedy the building height
situation:
1. Obtain an after-the-fact variance to exceed the maximum building height of an
accessory structure in the Shoreline Residential Zone.
2. Alter the structure so the maximum height(as defined by ordinance) is 13 feet.
The Planning Commission directed staff to conduct a site visit to determine the "use" of
the structure. Staff(Dawn & Justin) visited the property on May 6, 2014. Without going
inside the structure, it was difficult to determine the exact "use." The property owner
stated the following:
• There are no guest quarters within the structure
• There is no sewer/water connection to the building
• He will re-measure to confirm Mr. Hallan's measurements
• The structure will be used as a private wood working shop
• The second story is for lumber storage only
• There is "no support" for the upper level deck. It is used primary for aesthetic
purposes.
7.
ir4
I
Pequot Lakes Staff Report 8(a)-1
May 15,2014
