City of
Pequot
`- Lalzes- --
June 3, 2014
James and Vicki Benson
13346 — 130th Avenue
Milaca, MN 56353
Re: PIN: 290222208CC0009
602o North Sluetter Road
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Benson:
Thank you for meeting with me last Friday to discuss the landscaping and shoreline
alterations you would like to take place. There were several items we discussed and I
will address them separately.
• Your landscape contractor submitted a drawing to create a concrete sidewalk
from the existing outdoor steps lakeward to the bank, where 8 rock slab steps
would be installed. A rock retaining wall approximately 3 feet high would be built
between the two pine trees, approximately 40 feet in length. The steps, part of
the concrete sidewalk and the rock retaining wall would be in the Shore Impact
Zone (SIZ),the first 37.5 feet from the OHW. The City can permit, over the
counter, grading less than 10 cubic yards in the SIZ. More than 10 cubic yards,
but less than 50 cubic yards, would require a Conditional Use Permit. 50 cubic
yards or more is excluded. It appears to me that what the contractor proposed
would require a Conditional Use Permit.
• When I visited with you,you mentioned you did not realize the pathway was
proposed to be concrete. You would need to decide what you prefer for that area.
• The proposed steps would provide access to the lake and dock area.
• Your landscape contractor stated he is planning to install riprap along the
shoreline, below the OHW. The City of Pequot Lakes requires a permit from the
City to install riprap. I have enclosed the portion of the City Code outlining those
regulations.
• We discussed using deep rooted vegetation rather than riprap. I have enclosed a
brochure from the DNR website regarding natural buffers and lakescaping.
4638 COUNTY RoAD 11 •PEQuoT LwEs,MN 56472 • (218) 568-5222• Fnx: (218) 568-5860•www.pequotlakes-mn.gov
