The proposed pedestrian mall along Washington Avenue would similarly be an experience unique to the area. <br /> Other area shopping environments are all auto-based. The experience of an outdoor pedestrian mall,complete <br /> with benches,fountains,public art and other landmarks,would set Pequot Lakes apart. While Government <br /> Drive will maintain high-visibility,regardless of where the highway is expended,Washington Avenue could <br /> become the preferred location due to the pleasant experience it would provide to shoppers. <br /> The City should also actively seek a landmark business,such as a microbrewery,that would provide some <br /> entertainment value in addition to the retail value it provides. A microbrewery,or similar endeavor,would help <br /> spread the Pequot Lakes brand and image beyond the City.
