It would create something uniquely memorable about the community and would reinforce the <br /> downtown's image of a recreational hub. <br /> The proposed pedestrian mall along Washington Avenue would similarly be an experience <br /> unique to the area. Other area shopping environments are all auto-based. The experience of an <br /> outdoor pedestrian mall, complete with benches,fountains, public art and other landmarks, <br /> would set Pequot Lakes apart. While Government Drive will maintain high-visibility, regardless <br /> of where the highway is expended,Washington Avenue could become the preferred location due <br /> to the pleasant experience it would provide to shoppers. <br /> The City should also actively seek a landmark business,such as a microbrewery,that would <br /> provide some entertainment value in addition to the retail value it provides. A microbrewery, or <br /> similar endeavor,would help spread the Pequot Lakes brand and image beyond the City.
