parking, two 10-foot travel lanes, and 20 feet on the other side for diagonal
`.- parking) further to the west. We will extend a curb return around on Sibley Street
to the west edge of the side parking area. We will need an ADA compliant
pedestrian ramp on the south side of Sibley.
Please note that these proposed added improvements will still not address
drainage issues, similar to the base contract's proposed pavement mill and inlay
basically maintaining existing drainage patterns (i.e. we may still end up having
drainage problems and issues since we are not completely reconstructing the
street and its grades).
We understand Mike Loven is separately working with Minnesota Power on
relocating the existing street light poles from the east side to the west side within
these three blocks.
Our scope of work will include sending out a survey crew to pick up the
necessary topography for the north and south sides of Oriole Street back to the
east about mid-block. We will also have to spend the time necessary (and it does
take time) checking door sill elevations, sidewalk cross slopes, and resulting curb
and gutter elevations versus existing pavement elevations to meet ADA
standards. We will put together plan (and possibly cross section) sheets showing
these improvements, along with estimating quantities. We will then review these
with the City staff and make any adjustments. We will next submit these to Tri-
`. City Paving for costing. Upon appropriate costing from Tri-City Paving and
approval by the City Council, we will process the proper Change Order
documents.
Our cost to perForm the above services will be hourly, not to exceed, $15,500.
As construction is not slated to start until after Labor Day, we have some time to
work out pricing and any construction contract time changes with Tri-City Paving.
We will be glad to discuss our understanding of the scope and our effort if the
City has any questions.
In preparing for my meeting with Dave and Mike, I had roughed out some curb
and gutter and sidewalk replacement numbers and came to a rough cost of
$75,000. This does not include the Oriole pavement component. Once we
prepare detaited drawings, we will have a better handle on costs.
Council Action Requested: Council discussion and a
decision on additional work on the Government Drive
project.
-
