The department truck committee has been meeting to decide what direction our .
department vill take to lower our ISO fire rating. Our present rating is 5 in the City with
fire hydrants and 8 in rural areas. A new engine should lower our rural rate to 7.
The new radios for Crow Wing County fire departments have been ordered. The new
tower to be constructed north of Pequot Lakes has been delayed The County did receive a
grant for the radios so our costs will be lower than anticipated. The sta.te of Minnesota
will pay for the radio tower construction being it is close to highway 371.
Matt Kieselbach, Bryant Szymanski, and Justin Klatterhagen are the three newly hired
fire fighters for our department.
The contract rates for 2012-2013 contracts have been affected by the devaluation of the
Breezy Point Resort. This action has caused an increase in rates for Maple, Loon Lake,
and Moose Lake Townships. These three areas a11 had an increase in their building
market values. All Crow Wing County areas experienced a decrease in their valuations.
Maple and Loon Lake Townships also had an increase in fire call hours for the ten year
average. The Kopp formula which is used for computing fire contract costs is the most
fair way we can distribute contract fees.
There will be lots of road construction in our areas this summer. Highway 371
construction will start soon and Crow Wing County Road 11 will start after the fourth of
July.
'
A region 5 project may affect our fire training in the future by using the internet to link
with other areas so training could be less costly and more effectively done.
Gerald Campbell asked about the dry well underground storage tanks in Maple and
Moose Lake Townships. They are still in use but have not been recently used for water
supply due to our department's use of three tanker trucks a.nd a more intense mutual aid
program. Very dry weather conditions some year would make these storage tanks a
valuable water source. The department will check these tanks in the near future and
report to the Board.
Our next meeting will be July 25 at 7 pm at the Pequot Lakes fire station meeting room.
Sodd motioned to adjourn, second by Bartels, meeting adjouned.
-.1
