<br />MINUTES OF THE APRIL 25, 2012 MEETING
<br />T'he quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson at 7:00
<br />pm. Members attending were Hart, Benson, Malecha, Dubay, Sodd, Weaver, Rudberg,
<br />Nelson, Peterson, Campbell, Bartels, and Donovan. The minutes of the last meeting were
<br />not read due to a motion by Benson, second by Dubay, motion passed.
<br />The first quarter fire call report totaled 24 ca11s. By types there were 6 mutual aid
<br />structure, 5 good intent gas leaks, 3 good intent fire alarms, 3 medical assist, 2 good
<br />intent grass fires, and 1 each of a good intent motor vehicle accident, a motor vehicle
<br />accident/rescue, a structure fire, a grass fire assisting the DNR, and a propane tank fire
<br />threatening a structure. By location, there were 6 each to Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point,
<br />3 to Pine River, 2 each to Loon Lake Township, Pelican Township, and Idea1 Township,
<br />and 1 each to City of Jenkins, Poplar Township, and Nisswa. Last year we had 15 calls
<br />during this time period.
<br />Fire bills sent were 4 that total $2650.00.
<br />The training report for the quarter totaled 15 hours. By types, there were 3 hours each of
<br />bloodborne pathogens and confined space, 2 hours each of thermal imaging camera
<br />operation, radio training for the new 800 megahertz system, elevator operation and
<br />� safety, ice rescue, and 1 hour medical testing.
<br />The fmancial report was discussed. The over budget medical expense was due to our
<br />2011 medical testing not being done until January of 2012. The maintenance budget was
<br />high due to purchasing new tires for Rescue 1. Sodd motioned to approve the financial
<br />report, second by Bartels, motion passed.
<br />Fire department news and notes included helping with the polar plunge fund raiser at
<br />Breezy Point, replaced six tires on Rescue 1 at a cost of $1062.00, attended a radio
<br />training program at the high school, changed the name of our scholarship to the PLFD
<br />scholarship in memory of Ron Myers, Are planning a house burn in Jenkins as soon as
<br />inspections and paperwork is done, participated in a mass fire department drill at the
<br />former Piney Ridge Resort complex on Whitefish Lake, applied for a DNR matching
<br />grant for $4570.00 to purchase a ram nozzle, 4 one hundred foot sections forestry fire
<br />hose, 3 sections of 1 3/4 inch fire hose, and a 2'/2 inch gated wye fitting, changed our by-
<br />laws to a11ow up to 90 days for a fire fighter to make up a required training class, and
<br />changed our by-laws to require membership approval of any purchase over $500.00,
<br />which is not included in our regular budget. Any emergency repair costs over $500.00 are
<br />not required to be approved in advance.
<br />Our loan to purchase Engine 1 has been paid in full. The amount due was $36,752.00.
<br />This payment saved approximately $600.00 in interest fees.
