May 29, 2013
Honorable Mayor and Council Members
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472-0361
RE: Proposal for Engineering Services
North Washington Street
Pequot Lakes, MN
Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
Brainerd I Baxter
7804 Industrial Park Road
PO Box 2720
Baxter, MN 56425-2720
Tel: 215-829-51 17
Fax: 218-5 29-2517
W idsethSmithNolting.com
We know the Planning Commission and the City Council have had several ideas on the layout
of a reconstruction of North Washington Street from Main Street (County State Aid Highway —
CSAH — 11) to Oriole Street.
Following is our best understanding of the level of improvements and our corresponding scope
of services.
We will be at your June 4 City Council meeting and look forward to your feedback so that we
can adjust this proposal, if needed, and provide you the most economical and efficient level of
service.
• Research property corners, and locate horizontal and vertical survey control.
• Make a Gopher State One Call and preferably obtain fieid information from utilities, but if not
provided, obtain design maps from them.
• Field survey all underground and above ground features to prepare a base map.
• Remove and replace existing sanitary sewer (Public Works said existing watermain is okay
to remain). If the City has televising, that will help minimize unknowns.
• Washington Street's existing drainage — one grate inlet — connects to the County's CSAH 11
/ Main Street storm sewer system. We will look into this in more detail, but we do not
anticipate significant changes in impervious surface from before these improvements to after
these improvements.
We will talk to the County about the improvements, but we are not anticipating in our effort
having to upsize the storm sewer system in CSAH 11 / Main Street. Should the County
require this or something similar, we will re-visit the scope with the City Council.
Design a new storm sewer system of catch basins and piping in Washington Street for the
purposes of positive drainage — not necessarily based on a certain size storm.
w
OLi'ItvSa
engineering archifecture ! land surveying environmetal services
