AGENDA ITEM #8.3
Pejittf
Lakes
REPORT TO
CITY COUNCIL
Report Prepared by: Sergeant Chad Turcotte
Date: September 1, 2015
Subject: Request to Purchase Police Cameras
Report: The Police Department is expected to have
functioning camera systems in patrol vehicles to document
public contact. Previously the Police Department used Digital
Ally camera systems for patrol vehicles and budgeted $15,000
this year for the purchase of an upgraded system that was
supposed to fix all glitches in their system. The upgrade was
implemented, but unfortunately the system did not work as it
continued to experience problems on a monthly basis. The
Police Department has returned the camera system to Digital
Ally and is waiting for a refund estimate for this previously
installed system.
The majority of law enforcement agencies utilize either
Panasonic Arbitrator or Watchguard camera systems and each
have their own unique features. The Watchguard quote was
estimated at $33,090 whereas the Arbitrator quote was
estimated at $36,242. Both of these quotes are higher than the
$15,000 budgeted for camera system upgrades in 2015. We
