Bridge Concept Notes by Melissa Schultz,MnDOT Bridge Designer
Attached are the aesthetic concepts for TH371 as well as a cost estimate to go with each
concept. For each bridge, concept 1 fits within MnDOT's cost participation policy. Each
concept 2 would require additional funding from the city. The aesthetic elements are
itemized in the cost estimates so they can see how much they cost in the event that they
would like to add or remove any features.
On the pedestrian bridge, the group had expressed the desire for some type of element to
be attached to the railing so we are currently showing the Paul Bunyan Emblem. I just
wanted to note that the bridge is on a skew facing away from oncoming traffic so any
images attached to the railing would not be viewed head on, therefore, using this type of
feature may not be the best use of aesthetic funds. Just something for them to consider.
