of employment will be based on a projected number of hours that the employee is expected to <br />work. <br />ARTICLE 10 <br />WORK SCHEDULES <br />10.1 The normal workweek shall be an average of eighty (80) hours in a two (2) week pay period. <br />10.2 The normal work year shall consist of two thousand eighty (2080) hours, to be accounted for by <br />each employee through: <br />a. Hours worked on assigned shifts; <br />b. Holidays; <br />C. Authorized paid leave time. <br />Nothing contained in this, or any other Article shall be interpreted to be a guarantee of a <br />minimum or maximum number of hours the Employer may assign employees. <br />10.3 Employees may switch shifts upon approval of the Police Chief or designee and provided such <br />switching does not result in an obligation to pay overtime. <br />10.4 Work schedules shall be established by the Police Chief or designee. The recurring pattern of <br />shifts may be changed upon thirty (30) days advance written notice to the Union, except where <br />extenuating circumstances necessitate a shorter notice. Schedule changes to cover a temporary <br />special need or to cover shifts which become vacant due to an officer's temporary absence do not <br />require thirty (30) days advance notice. Employees shall bid for shifts based on classification <br />seniority providing the employee is qualified to perform the work. <br />10.5 When an employee is required by the Police Chief or designee to attend classes in Law <br />Enforcement, the employee shall be compensated at the regular rate of pay, for time actually <br />spent in attendance at the class. Documentation of actual class time must be provided. Direct <br />travel time to and from the training will be compensated, at the employee's straight time rate of <br />pay. Travel expense reimbursement is subject to the City of Pequot Lakes Travel/Expense <br />Reimbursement Policy, and the City's Personnel Policies Employee Education and Training. <br />10.6 All employees who, because of their duties are asked to remain away from their home portals, <br />shall receive compensation for food and lodging reasonably and necessarily incurred in <br />accordance with the City of Pequot Lakes Personnel Policies (Section 15) <br />Employee Education and Training, and the Travel/Expense Reimbursement Policy and <br />reimbursement for mileage incurred\ if authorized to use the employee's private vehicle, at the <br />IRS applicable established mileage rate, and direct travel time to and from shall be compensated <br />as paid work time. <br />
