PEQUOT LAKES COMMUNITY LIBRARY
BOARD MINUTES FOR MARCH 14TH. 2023
Members Present: Mark Jurchen, Shannon Wheeler, Stacey Paulbeck, and Terri Grimes —
Board Members. (Quorum) Also attending were Linda Olson and Ann Hutchings. The meeting
was called to order at 4:30PM by President Jurchen.
Board Election: Mark Jurchen was nominated for the Chair position and Courtney Gann for
Vice President. Terri Grimes moved to cast a unanimous ballot for the two positions.
Shannon Wheeler seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Minutes: The minutes were previously submitted to the board via email. No corrections or
additions noted. Shannon moved to approve the minutes as read. Stacey Paulbeck seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
Financial Report: Mark reviewed the financial statements which are recorded on the City of
Pequot Lakes web site. Stacey inquired on how long the current working capital would sustain
the library's expenses. Mark indicated that with the continued support of the Friends of the
Library, the fund which is currently $97,000 would cash flow for the next 3 to 4 years. A
committee will need to be formed in a year or so to discuss the long term sustainability of the
library without additional tax revenue and possible consideration of placing the operation on
the levy.
Linda's Report: Linda shared updates on the following items with the board:
1. The new weather related closing policy has been implemented and is working well.
2. Nick Roy and City Maintenance Crew removed branches from the roof. Winter weather
was responsible for the debris. Further cleanup will be done this spring.
3. The work on a current inventory of the book collection is currently underway.
4. Candice Simar will be providing a reading program at no charge on June 14th and June
215t. A proposed reading program submitted via email by Courtney Gran presented by
Beth Hautala was reviewed. The board felt it would be a redundant program this year
and would place pressure on the success of Candice's seminar along with our Summer
Reading Program. The board will reconsider it for next year.
5. Shelving was redirected from the Home School Program to the Children's section for
additional shelf space. The change was needed and well received.
6. Linda is managing the new message board behind the front desk. She is utilizing Google
Power Point which is working well. It provides updated information and events about
the City and the community. A very good addition to our communication efforts.
