City Council Minutes
October 2, 2023
-----------------------------

RELATION TO TIF DISTRICT 2-2. MOTION WAS SECONDED BY
COUNCIL MEMBER PEDERSON. MOTION CARRIED 4-0.

5.3. EDC Update

Brad Becklin states the EDC has been working on digital marketing strategy. He
presents a packet that was given to the EDC by a company named 2060. The
cost is $25,950 for a website and $75/month for hosting, and $300/month for
hosting and maintenance.

Council Members discuss what the goal of marketing is, if the cost is too
expensive and how they want to proceed. Mayor Gardner thought the price is
steep for a utilitarian website. He states if they want to spend money on
something, there first needs to be a vision, mission, etc. to have a complete plan
before throwing anything out there. Council Member Pederson states in
comparison to other communities that have invested in a third-party marketing
company, he doesn’t think the cost is too much and if the desire is to market the
city there needs to be a measurement tool like presented by 2060 digital. He
stated other communities have spent upwards of $50,000-$75,000. Discussion
ensued about what other cities have done.

The board will take the information to review and will decide the direction at the
next meeting. The Council discussed having a presentation at the November 6,
2023, Council meeting.

5.4. Park Commission Update

Kim Churack updates everyone with the information from their last meeting.

1. Park Grants Update – Two grants have been submitted to DNR for a tree
study and one for the replacement of trees.
2. Park Board voted whether to change the name of Trailside North to Paul Park
to avoid confusion between Trailside North and Trailside Park. They ask the
Council Members to approve this change.
3. The dam by Mayo Lake Park has been removed. It has caused the levels of
Sibley and Mayo lakes to drop to concerning levels. Sibley Lake Association
leaders are meeting with the Corps of Engineers and DNR to decide what
needs to be done.
4. The Park Board is asking the Council Members to approve a $210 expense
from Park Board carryover funds to make ten directional signs to post in
Mayo Park.
5. The Pequot Lakes Rotary Club has asked the Park Board to support their
goal of having a family fun day in July of 2024. The Rotary Club would do all
the organizing and funding for the event.
6. The Park Board will make sure that the City of Pequot Lakes is lit up again for
Christmas. They will concentrate on both sides of Trailside Park. They
understand there is $3,000 left from last year and they would like to access
this money to purchase more lighting.
