Archaeology
There are no recorded archaeological sites within the APE,and it is our opinion that there is a low likelihood of
intact archaeological resources being present within the APE for this undertaking. Therefore,we do not believe
that an archaeological survey is warranted for the undertaking as it is currently proposed.
Historic/Architectural
We agree with the agency determination that there are no historic/architectural properties within the APE
which are either listed in or which have previously been determined eligible for listing in the National Register of
Historic Places(NRHP).
Although not clearly articulated in the submitted documentation,we understand that Trailside Park is a park
which was established in 1973,with several other amenities added in the 1980s and 2000s.It is our opinion that
survey and evaluation of Trailside Park to determine NRHP eligibility is not warranted. Also,it is our
understanding that there are no other properties 45 years or older within the APE for the proposed undertaking.
Consulting Parties
We understand that Terry Kemper, former Tribal Historic Preservation Officer(THPO)of the Mille Lacs Band of
Ojibwe, has expressed an interest in the federal undertaking. If,as a result of continued consultation with the
new THPO,Mike Wilson(email: Mike.Wilson@millelacsband.com),the Mille Lacs Band expresses a concern
related to the federal undertaking and its potential effects on historic properties, then please re-open
consultation with our office.
We look forward to further consultation regarding your agency's finding of effect for the proposed federal
undertaking. Please contact me at sarah.beimers@state.mn.us or(651)201-3290 if you have any questions
regarding our review of this project.
Sincerely,
01)MU.q:BaM4/171
Sarah J.
