We need to have a Community Tree Survey. DNR has one from 2010 of most towns.
Having a tree study done can also be part of your application for funding. Use that for year one
&then the action for year two.To find the DNR's tree study,go to their web site or contact
Emma Schultz to get one.
The DNR will help with a species list. The idea is to get a wide varietyl
P. 10 - The Timeline is VERY important.
P. 11.- Cities are reimbursed over time; need to report progress every 6 months;they hold 10%
of grant until project is completed&approved.
P. 12. - As part of bonding requirements, you can combine all parks. If trees are going into the
City's right of way, it is much easier.
P. 15. -18- Scoring is EXTREMELY important. My suggestion is to get a tree contractor(s)to
work with us. You must be sure it is cost effective and the numbers are realistic.
P. 17—Communication is important. Be sure to advertise the project(give the DNR credit. And
make sure contractors have certifications. The grant would also cover the cost our staff(one or
more)getting certified.
RELEAF COMMUNITY FORESTRY GRANTS:
Very similar but from a different funding source; not as "fussy"as a bonding grant.
P. 19.- If you are not ready this year, the same amount will be available next year, but will offer
a shorter time frame to complete the project.
An organization can apply for both grants.
P. 22 - Check this priority list carefully—especially the last point.
P. 23.- Can get trees for local low-income private land. This grant also allows funding for staff
time&their certification &training in order to broaden their talents. There was also
something about an EAB (Emerald Ash Bore) management requirement. Again, you work off a
plan and the fund covers it. You only get to preserve the ash trees if you are in a 10 mile radius
of infestation (check DNR web site for malps). If not, it is perfectly appropriate to apply for
funds for pro-active removal&replanting of a wider variety of trees.
P. 25 - Check dates on here carefully—they are trying to get all requests done prior to January
1, 2024,when a new Preaward Financial Review process is required.
P. 27.- Need a Tree Study& Management Plan.
