7.4 If the Employer has reason to reprimand an employee, the Employer shall attempt
to do it in a manner that will not embarrass the employee before other employees
or the public.
ARTICLE 8
OVERTIME, COMPENSATORY TIME
8.1 All hours worked by an employee in excess of eighty (80) in a fourteen (14) day
work period shall be compensated for at the rate of one and one-half(11/4) times
the employee's regular straight time rate of pay or as compensatory time, figured
at one and one-half (1'/2) hours of compensatory time for each hour of overtime
worked. Accumulation of and use of compensatory time is subject to approval of
the Police Chief.
Vacation, personal holiday time and holiday time off do count toward "hours
worked" for purposes of overtime. Compensatory time and sick time off do not
count toward "hours worked."
8.2 Employees may accumulate compensatory time for overtime hours worked not to
exceed eighty (80) hours. Compensatory time may be carried from year to year,
but only to the accrued maximum as allowed under Section 12.3 of this
Agreement. Compensatory time, over the allowed accrued maximum to be carried
over for the following year, shall be paid in cash if not used by December 31 of
the year in which it is earned, unless an employee requests and receives City
Council approval for the exception to this rule. In cases of termination, for any
reason, accrued compensatory time shall be paid to the employee in cash.
8.3 Employees required to appear in court during their off-duty hours shall receive a
minimum of three (3) hours pay or compensatory time at their regular straight
time hourly rate.
8.4 Employees called back to work during their off-duty hours shall be paid a
minimum of two (2) hours pay or compensatory time at their regular straight time
hourly rate.
8.5 For the purpose of computing overtime compensation, overtime hours worked
shall not be pyramided, compounded or paid twice for the same hours worked.
Overtime will be calculated to the nearest quarter of the hour.
8.6 Employees have the obligation to work overtime or call backs if requested by the
Employer, provided the employee meets departmental policy standards for
reporting for duty.
22794-1(9.16.08) 8
